Acrylics : Lives and Treasure

The Get Up Kids : There Are Rules

Destroyer : Kaputt

Dan Bejar returns with a brilliant album drawing from the lush sounds of the early 1980s, but never forgets the importance of songwriting. The sound surrounding Bejar cast his songs in a very particular light and reinforces the feeling of the singer as persona. Bejar has always seemed to slip in and our of character and his albums all have their own unique feel-- the rootsy art-pop of Destroyer's Rubies, the MIDI experiments of Your Blues, and so on. But here everything seems even more sharply defined. Singing these songs, Bejar comes over as the wizened ex-playboy who has indulged every vice, come through the other side, and now looks on amused.

Kisses : The Heart of the Nightlife

Soundvenue

Hercules and Love Affair: Blue Songs

Marianne Faithful: Horses and High Heels

Crystal Fighters: Star of Love

Hos Crystal Fighters kombineres moderne engelske klubmusik konstant med baskisk folk.

Esben and the Witch: Violet Cries

Ryan Adams & the Cardinals: III/IV

Et dobbeltalbum med levninger lyder måske som uappetitlig cash-in, men Ryan Adams' efterladenskaber udklasserer her konkurrencen uden besvær.

Greg MacPherson: Disintegration Blues

Gang of Four: Content

I Was A King: Old Friends

Ducktails: Ducktails III: Arcade Dynamics

Cold War Kids: Mine Is Yours

Lia Ices: Grown Unknown

Men ikke alle sange rammer lige meget plet i denne omgang.

Tennis: Cape Dory

Stupid white Men: It's a Fine Day to Kill Someone Nice

Spokes: Everyone I Ever Met

Laurel Halo: King Felix

Man kan ikke andet end at beundre Brooklyn-debutanten Laura Halo for hendes uovertrufne stilsikkerhed.

Braids: Native Speaker

Iron & Wine: Kiss Each Other Clean

Wanda Jackson: The Party Ain't Over

Destroyer: Kaputt

The New Pornographers-medlemmet Dan Bejar har begået et lille mesterværk med sit mere tænksomme soloprojekt.

Joan As Police Woman: The Deep Field

Hvis Nina Simone havde gået i læderbukser, havde hun lydt sådan her.
